Check It Out

Starting tomorrow, Taylor De Cordoba gets transformed into a fashion boutique (through August 8th) stocking artfully installed pieces from L.A. designers such as Wren, Annie Costello Brown, Jesse Kamm, Gregory Parkinson and Clare Vivier (I have two of her fantastic bags). A portion of proceeds will go to P.S. Arts. You can get the full scoop here.

Downtown Digs

On Friday night we went to Janene and Rob's swanky loft in the Eastern Columbia building Downtown. It was beyond stunning.

Sky High

Claire knows a thing or two about eating in L.A. so it's no surprise that she introduced me to the best tacos I've experienced. Sky's Tacos is on Pico just east of Fairfax and you need to go now. We had guacamole, lemonade and shrimp tacos. It was a delicious mess.

Canada's Next Top Model

Doesn't she look fierce? This is my friend Brandy, who lives in Vancouver and was recently given a makeover thanks to Entertainment Tonight Canada that will air tonight and tomorrow (sadly we can't see it from the U.S.). There are a bunch of pictures and funny commentary on her blog, Brandy's Cancer Bash if you want to see the exciting day. The last year-and-a-half has been crazy. Brandy, who I went to grad school with at UCLA, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 31 and had a double mastectomy last year.

Like the amazing person she has always been, she beat it and still managed to raise two small children in the process. But just as she was coming back to life she was knocked down by a marital separation. I won't get into it all here, but she has had way too much responsibility and reality for her age -- all unwanted and out of her hands.

I can't wait to see what the future holds for my friend, who is an amazing writer. I wish I was there for this makeover as I can't think of anyone who deserved it more. And I love what she said about the dress. "I kinda knew right away that this dress was a keeper. It's a Tory Burch dress with Prada heels. I never thought I'd be using the word 'Prada' so casually, but yeah, I guess I am.
